Lady Mustangs move to 3-0 in GSAC play

The Master's University women's volleyball team swept the Hope International Royals on Friday in The MacArthur Center to move to 3-0 in GSAC play.

TMU's 3-set win (25-12, 25-16, 25-19) was its third 3-set win in four games. Isabella Amet had 13 kills to lead the way and Kate Wagner had 31 assists. Sierra Hale and Amet added 13 digs each.

"I thought we played a ton better tonight and we touched the ball a lot better than we did against La Sierra," TMU Head Coach McKenna Hafner said. "In general, I thought we were very composed and played a lot of clean volleyball."

The Lady Mustangs committed just 14 errors compared to 20 for the Royals. TMU's defense stifled HIU to just a .010 hitting percentage and TMU easily outpaced them, hitting .252.

In the first set, TMU jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 14-8 to seize control. The Lady Mustangs extended the lead to as much as 12, off two kills from McKenna Brady. TMU hit .342 total in the opening frame. The second set was more of the same, with TMU jumping off to a solid lead and never looking back. They rattled off four straight kills from the 19-15 mark to make it 23-15 and put the second set away.

HIU fought back in the third set as the Royals took a quick 5-0 lead. TMU quickly responded and tied it up 10-10, thanks to a block from Macy Gebhards and Brady. The Lady Mustangs built the lead to as much as six in the final stages off an Aaralynn Nichols kill, and cruised to a 25-19 closing set.

"Our offense was great as well as our defense was great. We were very quick to terminate," Hafner said.

The Lady Mustangs will go on the road to take on Arizona Christian University Wednesday in Glendale, Ariz.
