Trent Rickard once again scored two goals as The Master's University men's soccer team (1-1-1) powered past California Lutheran 3-1 Thursday in Santa Clarita, Calif.
TMU's three goals are the most they've scored all season, as
Hidenori Akasaka added one score as well.
The Mustangs kept it a scoreless game in the first half thanks to the efforts of goalie
Julian Graham. Graham had six saves on seven shots on goal, keeping Cal Lutheran scoreless until the final ten minutes.
"I was really proud of Julian. He came up with some really nice saves," TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard said. "Those were game-changing saves, especially the one when it was 0-0."
After a relatively quiet first half offensively, TMU began to heat up following halftime. Just seven minutes into the second half,
Trent Rickard scored his fifth goal of the season from
Zach Rodriguez to take a 1-0 lead. Cal Lutheran tied it up in the 82nd minute but TMU responded quickly with a goal from Akasaka off an assist from
Trent Rickard six minutes later.
Trent Rickard followed it up with another 2-goal game, adding a goal off an assist from
Caden Deck in the final minute to extend the lead to 3-1.
"Once you get that one goal, they start pressing so you can get two and three," Coach Rickard said. "I was proud of Trent. That was his third game in a row with two goals."
TMU had 13 total shots with Akasaka and
Zach Rodriguez each adding two shots.
Peyton Gorans and
Matt Picht both recorded one shot each.
TMU will complete their stretch of four games in nine days with a match against Stanton University Saturday at Reese Field.
