The Master's men's volleyball team picked up their third conference win of the season with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-20 win over the Arizona Christian Firestorm Friday in The MacArthur Center.
The Mustangs (13-0, 3-0) hit better than .450 in each of the first two sets before falling off a bit in the third. Still, the team hit .333 with the advantage in kills (39-13), blocks (7-6) and aces (9-2).
"Our performance against Arizona Christian was commendable," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "We executed our game plan effectively and secured a solid 3-0 victory. However, our focus now shifts to tomorrow's match against OUAZ at 1 p.m. We anticipate a competitive game and will prepare diligently to maintain our momentum."
TMU jumped out to early leads in each of the first two sets and stretched those advantages until the set end.
But in the third it was a slightly different story. The Master's once again jumped out to a big lead, getting up 15-6. But the Firestorm scored four straight and seven of the next nine points to cut the difference to 18-13. After a couple of ACU attack errors made it 20-13, Arizona Christian scored four of the next five to make it a 4-point game.
But behind kills from
Garrett Beall,
Isaac Laing and
Carston Saelzler, The Mustangs closed out with three of the final four points to win the set by five and secure the match.
Braden Van Groningen led the attack with 12 kills and hit .667 for the match.
Bryce Jones had a team-high 25 assists and
Trace Oswald finished with five blocks.
The Master's will be home on Saturday to take on the OUAZ Spirit in another GSAC match. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
