Hope International University (CA) entered the game against The Master's University baseball team ranked No. 8 in the nation.
They proved their rank, defeating the Mustangs 21-0 at Lou Herwaldt Stadium in Santa Clarita, Calif. Friday afternoon.
Junior Matt Chapman started for the Mustangs and took the loss. In his 5.0 inning assignment, he allowed 10 hits and five runs while throwing two strikeouts.
The Royals opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning. But the Mustangs almost took the lead in the bottom of the third, as they had the bases loaded with only one out. But the Mustangs entered the fourth with no runs.
"We had a good chance there." TMU Head Coach Monte Brooks said after the game. "We should have scored with the bases loaded, but they got the two outs and left them on base."
The Mustangs could not fend off the Royals for long, needing three pitchers to get out of the sixth inning as the Royals scored 12 runs.Â
Freshman Luke Scott pitched the last two innings for the Mustangs, allowing three hits and four runs while throwing three strikeouts.
The Mustangs look to rebound against the Royals, as they will play them in a doubleheader at Lou Herwaldt Stadium Saturday. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
