Mustangs screech the Owls on the diamond

The Master's baseball team got four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the Oregon Tech Owls 9-7 Saturday at Lou Herwaldt Stadium.

Ty Beck had two home runs in the game and Isaiah Morales and Zach Jenkins each had their first round-trippers as a Mustang.

"That was a huge victory," TMU Head Coach Monte Brooks said. "Our offense had some big blows and our pitchers did a very good job against a very good team. Their effort was great and the enthusiasm from every player was excellent."

Carson Knapp got the start and went 3.0 innings. He was followed by Gage Webster for 3.0 innings, Lucas DeSpain (who got the win) for an inning, Michael Chung for 1.0, and Emilio Morales came in to close it out and earn the save.

The Mustangs (5-2) got the scoring started early when Beck hit his first home run, a 2-run blast to right, in the bottom of the first.

Oregon Tech answered with one in the second and four in the third to go up 5-2.

In the bottom of the third, Beck hit his second home run to right, another 2-run shot, to draw TMU to within a run.

But a solo shot for the Owls put Oregon tech up 6-4 in the fourth.

The Master's got one in the fifth when Morales hit his solo shot to right to make it 6-5. The Owls picked up an RNI single in the seventh to go up by two.

And that's when the heroes came to the plate for the Mustangs.

Beck's third hit of the day knocked in Morales and Ewan Leonard to tie it at 7-7. Then it was Jenkins turn to touch 'em all with his 2-run shot to right-center that gave TMU the 9-7 lead.

Then it was up to Chung and Emilio Morales to hold the lead and save the win.

Beck finished 3 for 4 with the two home runs and six RBIs. Isaiah Morales finished 3 for 4 as well to bring his team-leading batting average up to .516 after the first seven games. Jenkins finished his day 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Brooks was especially proud of the win with several players either sick or injured.

"It was a team effort, knowing that some of our players are sick and some are injured," Coach Brooks said. "And yet we had others pick each other up, so Praise the Lord. I'm very excited for this club."

The Master's will be back on the diamond at Lou Herwaldt Stadium on Monday when they once again host Cedarville University (OH). The Mustangs defeated the Yellow Jackets last Wednesday 9-5. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
