Mustangs unable to rally back against Golden Eagles

The Master's University baseball team had to contend with La Sierra University and the wind, as the Mustangs lost 4-3 at Lou Herwaldt Stadium in Santa Clarita, Calif. Thursday afternoon.

It was a tight game between the Mustangs and the Golden Eagles, as hitters had to deal with both the wind knocking down every ball and the pitchers making it difficult to hit anything.

Starting pitcher Matt Chapman kept things quiet for the first three innings, preventing any runs and only allowing two hits through the stretch. But the Golden Eagles broke the stalemate with three runs in the top of the fourth.

The Mustangs (8-4) responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, making sure to keep the game close.

Senior pitcher Gage Webster came on in the top of the fifth, where he snuffed out any momentum by only allowing three hits and one run while pitching seven strikeouts in the five innings he played.

But for TMU Head Coach Monte Brooks, the game was lost because of the offense.

"We didn't execute offensively." Coach Brooks said after the game. "The wind knocked a couple of home runs down. Owen [Hayes'] would have been out [Jacob Kowes'] would have been out, I think Jack Drew's would have been out… They would have hit them out."

Senior catcher Austin Young, senior third baseman Tommy Gwinn and junior shortstop Isaiah Morales each recorded a run, with Morales leading the team with three hits in five at bats.

The Mustangs will have a chance to get revenge on the La Sierra though, as they will play the Golden Eagles in a doubleheader at Lou Herwaldt Stadium on Friday, with the first game starting at 11 a.m and the second game beginning 30 minutes after.

"We just need to do what we did on the pitch and defense and be better offensively." Coach Brooks said about the next two games.
