The Master's men's volleyball team got a tight 4-set win against former GSAC rival the Menlo Oaks Friday in Atherton, Calif.
Despite getting out hit by Menlo (.333 - .277) and being on the short end of kills (49-54), the No. 1-ranked Mustangs stayed undefeated with the 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23 victory.
TMU did, however, show strength from the service line, pumping 11 aces in the match and also proved to be the better blockers with a 7-6 advantage.
"Menlo played a tough match, and their opposite gave us a lot of trouble offensively," TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg said.
That opposite was Mustafa Selçuk Uyar with the Oaks, who finished with 23 kills and a .488 hitting percentage
"After dropping the second set, I was proud of how we stayed composed and found ways to battle through some adversity," Goldberg said. "It wasn't always clean, but we scrapped and made the plays we needed to close it out."
Braden Van Groningen led the Mustangs with 12 kills and also served six aces.
Isaac Seltzer picked up 11 kills with
Max McCullough getting nine and a team-high four blocks.
The Master's will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. Saturday to take on the NCAA Division I No. 8-ranked Stanford Cardinal. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
