Quincy Phillips had 22 points and
Brayden Miner drained a 3-pointer in the final minute to lift TMU over OUAZ and win their first GSAC game by a score of 75-72 on Thursday in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Miner scored 12 points in just 11 second-half minutes, including a clutch 3-pointer with three minutes left to cut the Spirit lead to just three and the final make in the last 30 seconds to seal the win.
TMU got out to a healthy lead thanks to 14 first-half points from Phillips, leading by nine at the intermission, 36-27. TMU had just one make from deep in the first half but a balanced attack behind Phillips helped TMU expand their lead.
However, OUAZ rallied in the second-half, shooting 53.3% from the field and 63.6% from downtown in the second half to narrow down TMU's lead. The Spirit surged in front late in the second half and led by as many as seven.
But TMU went on a run of their own to get back into the game.
Caden DeVries and Miner hit back-to-back triples and
Tiago Soares drained two free throws to knot the game at 66.Â
A Spirit 3-pointer by Gabe Schulhauser gave the Spirit the lead by four in the final minute but once again DeVries and Miner nailed back-to-back shots from deep to seal the game.
Tiago Soares had 10 points and nine rebounds along with two blocks. DeVries had nine points and four rebounds as well.Â
TMU will head on the road to play La Sierra on Saturday in Riverside, Calif.Â
