Lady Mustangs open hoops season with win

Behind 20 points from Chloe Auble, The Master's women's basketball team opened up their 2025-26 season with a 78-69 win over the Cal Lutheran Regals Tuesday night in The MacArthur Center.

Despite having just seven healthy players suit up for the game, the Lady Mustangs (1-0) pulled off the win against a Regals squad that played 18 players.

"Going into the game, I felt (our seven players) were prepared for the game but you never know," said TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson. "You don't if they're going to get gassed or if they needed a sub, but they really worked together. They showed that the hard work they put in during the pre-season came through."

TMU hit better than 43 percent from the field (26 of 60), 42 percent from 3-point range (8 of 19), and 75 percent from the free throw line (18 of 24). They out-rebounded the Regals 51-36, had four blocks, but turned the ball over 23 times.

Cal Lu had a 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter that ebbed and flowed into a Master's 32-31 lead with 2:01 to play in the half. But the Lady Mustangs closed out the first half on a 7-0 run, with Auble getting the final five points, to go into the locker room with the 39-31 lead.

The third quarter started in much the same way as the second quarter ended, with Master's opening up a 17-point lead with 4:01 to play in the frame. Allie Miller sparked the rally with eight points in the quarter, part of 26 scored by the team, to go into the final 10 minutes up 65-49.

The Regals cut the difference to nine points three times in that fourth quarter, but could never get any closer as TMU went 9 for 10 from the free throw line in the closing minutes to preserve the 9-point win.

Five Mustang players finished with double-digit scoring with both Allie Miller and Madi Brooks scoring 15 behind Auble's 20.

"Chloe Auble can play at the next level," Coach Wilson said. "That shot reminds me of when I played D-1. She can really play. Her timing and everything is right. She's the strongest shooter that I've seen in a long time."

Alli VanKooten had a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Bella Forker added 11. Both Forker and Abbie Mullins had team highs in assists with four.

The Master's will travel up to Oregon this Thursday and Friday to play in the Raider Classic, a tournament hosted by Southern Oregon. TMU will play the host team on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a matchup against Oregon Tech on Friday at 4:30.
