The Master's University men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout win over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Saturday on Reese Field.
The Mustangs improved to 4-4-1 and 3-2 in GSAC play thanks to goals from
Zach Rodriguez and
Trent Rickard. Rodriguez broke the scoreless tie in the with a goal in the 27th minute, his first goal of the season off an assist from
Michael Masimango.
TMU got opportunities early and often, including three shots in the first five minutes. The Mustangs dominated the shot-battle, leading ERAU 24-10 overall and outpacing them by nine shots overall in the second half. They also led the Eagles in corner kicks and committed fewer fouls. This was TMU's second shutout in a row after defeating Life Pacific 5-0 on Thursday.
"Good teams get multiple shutouts consistently," TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard said. "I though we played a complete game. We limited shots well and got goals when we needed it."
TMU remained only up by one goal until the 84th minute, when
Trent Rickard added another goal to his GSAC-leading total off a pass form
Kai Terentieff. Rickard continues to rank at the top of the GSAC and the NAIA for total points, shots, and goals.
"I was really happy with how our midfielders played," Coach Rickard said. "We didn't score that goal till very late but it gave us the chance to separate and not let them hang in there."
Julian Graham finished with four saves and
Peyton Gorans had six shots, including three shots on goal. The win moved TMU into a tie for third place in the GSAC with La Sierra as they trail Arizona Christian and SOKA.
The Mustangs will be on the road next week to Gilbert, Ariz. to take on Park University Gilbert on Thursday.
