TMU hoops trounces Texas A&M San Antonio

In the second game of The MacArthur Trust Classic, the TMU men's basketball team defeated Texas A&M San Antonio 93-65 Friday in The MacArthur Center.

TMU was boosted by a stellar offensive performance in the second half, shooting lights out from beyond the arc (47.37%) and overall (53.13%).

"Obviously, when you make shots it's a lot easier. That's basketball in general," TMU Head Coach Kelvin Starr said. "And we did just that in the second half. I think we had a run of maybe five or six straight threes."

Freshman Nate Boakye had 13 points to lead the Mustangs on four of nine shooting and made all four of his free throw attempts.

TMU struggled offensively in the first half shooting just 33% and headed into the half with just a slim 4-point lead. They shot just 27% on three-pointers and only had five free throws in the opening half.

But TMU was much more aggressive in the final 20 minutes, getting to the charity stripe 18 times and making nine of 19 three point attempts. Parker Tuttle started the second half and caught fire, scoring 11 points on three of six shooting to kick-start the Mustang offense.

"I think we still have a long way to go defensively. It's still a process," Coach Starr said. "As we go through these things, we'll take the win but I'm excited for us to keep getting better."

Caden DeVries had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Mustangs were also active on defense as they forced 19 turnovers and had 10 steals.

TMU will play their next game of The MacArthur Trust Classic on Saturday against Mission University in The MacArthur Center.
