Box Score Kinsley Kollman had a career-high 17 kills and
Krista Brady hit nearly .700 to lead The Master's women's volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 win over the Hope International Royals Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
As a team, the Lady Mustangs (16-3, 9-2) hit .352 with 50Â kills against 13 errors for the match. Defensively, TMU held the Royals to just 30 kills and a .155 attack percentage.
The win keeps The Master's in a tie for second in the GSAC with OUAZ, just half-a-game behind Arizona Christian with a conference-leading record of 10-2.
"I'm proud of our consistency and execution," said TMU Head Coach
McKenna Hafner. "We also adapted well to things we didn't expect, which is something we've struggled with all year. So I'm happy to see us grow in that area and execute well."
After the first set started with scoring from both teams going back and forth, the Lady Mustangs held a tenuous 14-13 lead. That's when they opened up an 11-4 run to close out the set with the 8-point win.
The second set started much the same as the first with the two teams trading blows and leads. The Royals had more leads, but could never grow the margin beyond two points. With HIU leading 21-20, TMU scored five straight points, with kills from
Macy Gebhards,
Kate Wagner and Kollman, to come from behind and win the second by four.
Riding that second-set momentum, The Master's jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third. Hope fought back and got to within two at 13-11, but a 7-2 run by the Lady Mustangs opened up the score to 20-13. Once again the Royals fought back, getting to within one at 23-22. But a final kill from Kollman and a punctuating ace by
Sierra Hale shut down the Royals advance and gave the match to TMU.
Krista Brady finished with 12 kills and only one attack error for a .688 attack percentage. She also added a pair pf blocks.
Kate Wagner tallied 41 kills in the three sets for an astonishing 13.67 assists per set average.
In a rare feat, every kill in the match by the Lady Mustangs had an assist (50 kills, 50 assists).
The Master's will have their next three matches at home starting with Thursday night when they host the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
