Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | DonDon Bumacod

Lady Mustangs make quick work of Life Pacific

The Master's University women's basketball team dominated the court with a 93-42 win over Life Pacific University at The MacArthur Center in Santa Clarita, Calif. Thursday evening.

The Mustangs had a full team effort on every part of the court, taking an early lead and refusing to let it go for the Warriors.

And for TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson, her team's performance came down to defense.

"I think our defense was the key tonight," Coach Wilson said. "I think we played well together, we communicated, but we really played well on defense."

The Mustang defense held the Warriors to 15 of 57 (26.3%) from the field and held them to just 1 of 15 (6.7%) from outside the arc.

And with their defensive play, the Mustangs had the chance to show their offensive skills by making 33 of 65 (50.8%) shots and 11 of 24 (45.8%) of their 3-pointers.

Sophomore Alli VanKooten led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds, six of which came from inside the team's paint, while junior Kelly Mathieson was close behind with 14 points on the night.

But points came from the entire team, as all 12 active players registered points in the game, something that surprised even Coach Wilson.

"You know, the thing about the bench, they surprise me all the time." Coach Wilson said. "They come in and they just ignite something different… Especially with running offense and getting flow from offense and getting stops on defense. They just light it up differently."

The Mustangs will have a quick turn around as they face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ) at The MacArthur Center Saturday at 12 p.m.
