Men's soccer loses heartbreaker to Golden Eagles

Box Score A foul in the box led directly to a Concordia University Irvine penalty kick in the 89th minute, that became the goal that beat The Master's men's soccer team 2-1 Saturday night in Irvine, Calif.

In a controversial call, the Mustangs' goalkeeper Julian Graham knocked away a shot, which was then cleared by the TMU defense. However the referee ruled one of those defenders ran over a CUI player in the process and gave the Golden Eagles the PK.

"We did a lot of good things and played with passion and focus the entire game," said TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard. "It was just a rough time for a PK."

The Master's opened the scoring in the 29th minute of the first half when Adiel Kaduya scored his first goal as a Mustang. CUI answered less than seven minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 going into the half.

Both teams had their opportunities in the second half, with the Golden Eagles controlling the action more and out shooting the Mustangs 6-2 in the final 45 minutes. CUI finished with 13 shots in the game compared to TMU's seven.

"Both teams had some really good chances and we just didn't finish the ones we had," Coach Rickard said. "But the good new is we are getting better every game and figuring each other out."

Kaduya took two shots to lead the Mustangs, with Matt Picht, Tyrik Trotman, Prince Chingancheke and Trent Rickard getting shots off as well. Graham was credited with three saves in goal.

"We don't have much time to dwell on (this game) since we play next Tuesday," Rickard said.

The Master's will travel north Tuesday to play UC Merced, a team that is receiving votes for the NAIA Top 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
