The Master's women's volleyball team had four different players get double-digit kills as they defeated the Arizona Christian Firestorm 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21 Thursday night in The MacArthur Center.
Timberlie Miller, who was named the GSAC Setter of the Week for her performance last week, finished with 50 assists in the four sets. But it was the way she delivered the ball to so many different hitters that made her coach take notice.
"Timberlie's set distribution was great," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "We always love it when you can get the middles involved, and both hit over .400. So (Miller) made some good choices and they were available."
One of those middle blockers was
Ruby Duncan, who willingly moved from her normal outside hitter position to fill a void created by injuries. The two-time All-GSAC player finished with 15 kills, three blocks and added three service aces as well.
"Ruby can play any position. That's one of the great things about her," Davis said. "Her vision is so good and she can play anywhere. And she definitely has that, 'What do you need?' attitude. Her volleyball IQ is so high and how she hits... Those two things, her vision and how she can alter her swing when needed no matter where she is, makes her a great player."
The Lady Mustangs (9-4, 3-0 GSAC) hit .311 as a team and finished with 65 kills in the match.
Grace Colburn led all players with a game-high 19 kills followed by Duncan's 15 and 10 each for both Bella Amet and
Andrea Barrera.
Freshman Kinsley Kollman got her first collegiate start and made the most of it, collecting a career-high eight kills and 10 digs.
"Kinsley is fun," Davis said. "She's the girl that everyone wants to love on because you can just see that she has so much talent and so much potential. She's crazy athletic, and every week she just gets a little better and a little better. She's been doing great in practice, taking some big swings like she did (in this game). She's not afraid and she's not timid."
The Master's will be back home on Saturday afternoon when they host the OUAZ Spirit, a team that is 2-0 in conference play so far. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
