Lady Mustangs open Summer Slam with a win

Box Score Behind 18 service aces, The Master's women's volleyball team got an opening-match, 3-1 win over the Simpson Redhawks at the Summer Slam hosted by Hope International in Fullerton, Calif.

The Lady Mustangs (2-0) took the first set 25-15, dropped the second 25-27 before closing out the third and fourth sets with decisive 25-13, 25-20 wins.

"The girls played pretty steady," said Head Coach Annett Davis. "Momentary lapses, but for the most part solid."

The turning point came in the third set. After the Redhawks came back and took set two and were within two points in the middle of the third at 10-8, TMU went on an 8-1 run to go up 17-9 and wrestle the momentum back to their side. They then closed out the set 8-4 to get the 12-point set win.

The Master's jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the fourth and never looked back, increasing the lead by as much as nine points before settling for the 25-20 set win and the match.

The Lady Mustangs hit .306 for the match and held Simpson to .089. Both Ruby Duncan and Grace Colburn had a game-high 13 kills, with Isabella Amet adding nine. Timberlie Miller dished 33 assists with Colburn, Sierra Hale and Andrea Barrera firing four aces each. Duncan and Amet had team highs with 10 digs apiece.

The Master's will only get a couple hours rest before taking on #10 Southern Oregon at noon Friday. TMU will close out the tournament with two matches on Saturday.
