Box Score The Master's women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the visiting La Sierra Golden Eagles 3-0 Thursday at Reese Field.
The Lady Mustangs (2-0) out-shot the Golden Eagles 20-2 and controlled the action throughout the contest.
"I think the competition was better so it was good that we still managed to control the game for the most part," said TMU Head Coach Esteban Chavez. "It was good that we kept a clean sheet. We should have had a clean sheet (last week against Bushnell) and we didn't, so it was good that we did it for this game."
TMU got the scoring started in the 5th minute of the second half when Hannah Kopp finished off a pass from
Breanna Fajardo to put a shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. For Kopp, who married men's soccer player Paul Kopp in May, it was her 15th career goal.
"For her to get her first goal so early in the season is always good," Chavez said. "She's a better player now. Her maturity, understanding the game, and now with the finishing it's going to really give her more confidence that will really help our team."
A little more than five minutes later The Master's was awarded a penalty kick when a La Sierra player was called for a hand ball inside the penalty area.
Harmony Rohde cranked the penalty kick into the upper left corner of the goal to make it 2-0.
Just three minutes later, freshman
Kegan Brunnemann scored her first collegiate goal when she lifted a shot just beyond the 18-yard box over the outstretched keepers arms into the upper right of the goal for the 3-0 final.
Brunnemann is just the latest freshman to step up and make significant contributions to the team.
"And they still have to break out of their shell," Chavez said. "Even though they are good players, it's a little bit different for them and they have to adjust. And some of them today started to get out of their shell. It's good to see."
Earlier in the day it was announced by GSAC Commissioner Mike Daniels that La Sierra will be joining the GSAC for the 2025-26 season. Soka University will also be joining the conference at that time.
The Master's will host the Biola Eagles this Saturday at 5 p.m. on Reese Field for a scrimmage. Admission is free for all fans.
