On the night when The Master's honored five players on Senior Night, the men's volleyball team beat Arizona Christian in three sets 25-16, 27-25, 25-22 Friday in The MacArthur Center.
The Mustangs celebrated
Patrick Paragas,
Diego Perez,
Mason Mullins, Ethan Eger and
Cayson Cloar with their families before the game.
And for Cloar, it was a night to remember as he had a career high 29 kills, the fourth most in a single game in program history.
"Honestly, the boys were just showing love and setting me as much as they could," Cloar said. "I really appreciate it because it was a really fun night. It was a lot of swings and a lot of kills in three sets, so it was just good fun."
Head Coach
Jared Goldberg acknowledged this group of players has elevated the team, which has only been in existence for five years, to the No. 1 team in the NAIA.
"[I am] thankful for my seniors and the work they have put into this program."
In the match, The Master's (20-2, 8-1) finished with a 40-26 advantage in kills, 8-3 difference in services aces, but were out-blocked 7-6. The team hit .309, below their season average of .347, and allowed the Firestorm a .160 hitting average.
Paragas finished the three sets with 34 assists, and
Cole Oliver led the team with four aces. Both Paragas and Mullins had a team-high three blocks each.
The Master's will finish their regular season on Saturday when they host No. 3 OUAZ. The Spirit come into The MacArthur Center at 7-2 in conference, one game behind the first place Mustangs. Should TMU win the match, it will be the team's first ever GSAC regular season championship. An OUAZ win and tiebreakers determine the team's fate.
