The Master's offense pounded 14 hits and the pitching staff only allowed two hits as the Mustangs shutout the Westcliff Warriors 13-0 Tuesday at Lou Herwaldt Stadium.
Â
In addition to the hits, TMU batters managed eight walks in eight innings. For the game, hitters then went 8 for 18 (.444) with runners in scoring position.
Â
The Master's put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in five of their eight innings of offense.
Â
"This was a great day," said TMU Head Coach
Monte Brooks. "Our pitchers were excellent, we had some big hits and we played some very good defense. And almost every guy on the team played. So it was a special day. Our team played a good game."
Â
Six different pitchers combined for the two-hit shutout, with
Carson Knapp getting the win.
Cale Mathison got the start, going 4.0 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out four. He was followed with an inning each by Knapp,
Nolan Inouye,
Robert York,
Casey LaCroix and
Ty Beck.
Â
"They were very aggressive," Coach Brooks said about the pitchers. "They attacked and were trying to pound the mitt. And they did. I'm really encouraged. It was Cale's best outing of his career for us, Carson was really good, and Nolan is just getting better and better."
Â
Eight different batters got hits, including the first career hits for both
Matt Lloyd and
Ethan Churchill.
Â
Miles Henderson finished 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBI.
Austin Young,
Ryan Mathiesen,
Kobe Katayama and
Ty Beck each had two hits.
Â
The Master's will be at home again Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader against Bethesda University. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
