TMU gets road win in Montana

Box Score The Master's women's basketball team stepped on the gas from the opening tip, winning the opening game of the University of Providence Classic 85-63 over Montana State-Northern Friday night in Great Falls, Mont.

The Mustangs (2-0) opened up a 26-11 lead at the end of the first quarter that bloomed into a 50-28 lead at the half. The team shot 33 of 66 (50%) from the field and held the Skylights to 23 of 70 (33%).

"Our great start and not letting Montana Northern back in this game," TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson said when asked what she liked most about the game. "We had great intensity from the start and [the team] did an excellent job maintaining that throughout the game. Also, our bench gave us great minutes and did a great job when they came into the game helping us on the defensive end."

Ten different players scored in the first 20 minutes of the game for TMU, with Marin Lenz pouring in 11 of her game-high 24 points in the first half. Kelly Mathiesen dropped eight in just the first quarter before finished the night with 11.

Lexi Hernandez secured her second consecutive double-double to start the season. Against MSUN the senior from Lynden, Wash scored 10 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and added another six assists.

Alli VanKooten also was part of the double-figure club as she scored 12.

The 85 points scored by the Mustangs is the most this season and the most since they scored 103 against Justice College back on Dec. 8, 2023. 

The Master's will finish their Montana trip when they play the University of Providence (MT) on Saturday. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
