Lady Mustangs notch one in win column

The Master's University women's basketball team used pinpoint shooting from near and far to get a 77-54 win over the Westcliff Warriors Saturday afternoon in The MacArthur Center.

The Lady Mustangs (4-3) shot 28 of 54 (52%) from the field and also dropped 10 of 19 (53%) from 3-point range. Those numbers were consistent throughout the game.

"Of course I'm happy for the win," said TMU Head Coach Fonda Wilson. "The girls came out strong but then they had to adjust to some things early. But what I'm really pleased with is how deep we are. We got to play a lot of people and they played well."

Eleven players saw the floor for TMU, with 10 of those 11 getting double-digit minutes and scoring. And nine of those players also pulled down at least one rebound.

While Marin Lenz and Alli VanKooten led The Master's with 12 points each, four other players had eight points each and three finished with six points, including freshman Bella Forker who also added five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.

"I think Bella came through with her tenacious defense and long arms and blocked shots," Coach Wilson said. "It really gets our press going. All in all I was really impressed with our bench. It looked like we had two teams out there that were really efficient doing what they are supposed to be doing."

The Lady Mustangs defense held the Warriors to less than 36% from the field and just 3 of 16 (19%) from deep.

The Master's will next play Stanton University in Garden Grove, Calif. on Dec. 7. Game time is still TBA.
