"Ruby and Grace both had good nights as well as Timberlie," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "Timberlie was super aggressive dumping and Ruby and Grace made good offensive decisions.
After Park-Gilbert moved up 11-10 in the first set, TMU went on a 9-4 run to take a 19-14 lead. When the Buccaneers got to within two, The Master's scored six of the final nine points to win the first set by six.
The second set went back and forth with both teams going on separate 3-0 runs and never getting more than a 2-point lead. With Park-Gilbert up 15-14, the Lady Mustangs went on a 9-2 run to go up 23-17. That was the cushion the team needed to take the second set by five points.
The Master's didn't waste any time in the third set and road that wave of momentum in dominating fashion. The team jumped out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back, at one point going on an 8-0 run sandwiched around a Buccaneers' timeout to go up 20-8. But the Bucs came back, going an 8-2 run themselves to get to 22-16 before a Lady Mustangs' timeout stopped the new wave to get the 6-point win.
TMU hit .239 as a team, leading the way in kills (45-29) and aces (9-3). But the Buccaneers took the advantage in blocks (8-6).
Duncan, Miller and
Janae Henderson each got involved in three blocks, with Colburn taking the high in digs with 10.
The Master's will stay in Arizona for a Friday afternoon match against Benedictine University Mesa that begins at 2 p.m.
"We need to make sure we play a more consistent and efficient match (Friday) as a team," Davis said.
