Trent Rickard scored three goals and added two assists as The Master's men's soccer team defeated the OUAZ Spirit 5-1 Thursday on Reese Field in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Rickard scored one in the first half and two in the second half, off assists from
Caden Zierenberg,
Adiel Kaduya and
Tyrik Trotman.
"I just knew this is a team you have to get up on early," Trent said. "If they start rolling then they are really hard to deal with. We came out a little more prepared than we did last week, which was a good wake-up call, and we took care of business."
The win put the Mustangs, sitting on top of the GSAC Men's Soccer standings, back in the win column after two consecutive road losses in Arizona last week.
"This was huge," Trent said of the team getting this win after the two losses last week. "It's biggest for our confidence. Our confidence was in the dirt for a little bit, so to be able to bounce back with a win like this is huge."
TMU (7-6-2, 7-2-2 GSAC) finished with 13 shots compared to the Spirit's eight with six of those shots on goal. The Master's got three goals on six shots in the first half.
"This was really satisfying after a tough road trip in Arizona," Head Coach Jim Rickard said. "We gave up five goals in the last two games without scoring much, so it was important to get back on track in the goals against column. And to get five goals and give up one is fantastic. Super excited for the team."
Tyler Mora scored a pair of goals in the first half, both off Rickard assists. The first Mora goal came in the 24th minute, and the second, which became the game winner, happened two minutes later.
Rickard now has 11 goals scored on the season, which is No. 1 in the GSAC, with Mora picking up his first two collegiate goals.
The Master's will be back home on Saturday to host Arizona Christian in an 11 a.m. match.
