Mustangs tie Redhawks in Arizona

Box Score Harmony Rohde's penalty-kick goal with 2:20 to play lifted The Master's women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie with the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks on a wet Saturday morning in Arizona.

It was the first tie of the season for the Mustangs (10-3-1, 7-2-1 GSAC), which helped them keep pace with conference-leading Hope International and Embry-Riddle.

After Bekah Micu drew the foul inside the box, Rohde lined up her PK and drilled it low into the left corner of the net to even the score.

Despite the tie score, it was the Mustangs who dominated the play, finishing with 35 shots compared to BenU's one. But that one for the Redhawks, happening seven minutes into the second half, proved to be the most pivotal shot of the entire match.

Sixteen of the 35 shots were on goal, with BenU goalkeeper Josephine Cisneros coming up with 13 saves.

"Clearly with 35 shots for and only one against, our young women played well," Head Coach Esteban Chavez said. "Our shot selection was not the best as lots of our shots were either from way too far, poor angles or off balance. For BenU, they took advantage of their lone opportunity and converted on it. Credit to them for being so efficient in that statistic."

Breanna Fajardo led the Mustangs with eight shots (five on goal), with Rohde firing off six shots and Sinclair Francescon getting off five.

The Master's will finish off the regular season with four home games, starting Thursday when they host OUAZ on Reese Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
