The Master's men's basketball team took one on the chin Saturday afternoon, losing to the Jessup Warriors 104-76 in Rocklin, Calif.
Â
The Mustangs (15-6, 4-3) were held to 40% shooting from the field while the Warriors hit nearly 56% of their shots. Three Warriors scored 20-or-more points, with five total in double figures.
"We did not defend even close to good enough to win a GSAC game, let alone a GSAC game on the road against a good team," said Head Coach Kelvin Starr.
The only lead TMU had was when
Caden Starr hit a 3-pointer 38 seconds into the game. Jessup answered that three moments later and took off from there.
The Master's got to within two with 10:26 to play in the first half, but Jessup closed out the final 10-plus minutes on a 32-19 run to go up 55-40 at the half.
The Mustangs opened the second half on a 6-0 burst in the first 1:05 to cut the lead to nine, but that was the closest they would get as Jessup controlled the game the rest of the way for the 28-point win.
Kaleb Lowery led TMU with 21 points.
Kamrin Oriol added 13,
Ty Harper 12 and
Jordan Caruso 10. Lowery, Caruso and
Tiago Soares each had six rebounds to lead the team. Caruso also had a team-high six assists.
The Master's will be back home on Thursday when they host Vanguard in The MacArthur Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
