Box Score Sinclair Francescon scored two early goals to lift The Master's women's soccer team to a 2-1 road win over the Whittier Poets Friday night.
Francescon scored both of her goals in the first 11:36 of the match, which is exactly what their coach wanted from them.
"Another good test for us tonight," said Head Coach Esteban Chavez. "The challenge I gave the girls is we need to start producing. We need to start scoring goals early. And that's exactly what we did."
Hannah Burke collected assists in each of Francescon's goals.
The scored stayed at 2-0 for most of the rest of the game. The Mustangs (4-1-1) had chances to add more goals, but couldn't make it happen.
"We played very good from start to finish on both ends of the field," Chavez said. "But we are learning how to close a game, and we learned a lot about that tonight. We had those opportunities to go up 3-0, but we didn't do that. Game management means we don't need to take unnecessary risks and just work to close it down."
Both teams finished with 16 shots each, with The Master's getting a slight 9-8 shots on goal advantage.
A late goal in the 83rd minute from the Poets cut the score to 2-1.
