Box Score The Master's women's volleyball team's Northern California swing started with a bump in the road as the Menlo Oaks defeated TMU in four sets Friday night in Atherton, Calif.
The Lady Mustangs (12-8, 2-4 GSAC) lost the first two sets 18-25, 18-25, but battled back to claim the third 25-23. A close set in the fourth eventual fell to the Oaks by a score of 26-24.
The offense for TMU struggled, hitting just .102 for the match and getting 40 kills to Menlo's 54. Attack errors were more than double for The Master's (25-12), but again it was the service ace advantage (14-7) that kept the team in the match.
"The power of belief goes a long way," said Head Coach Annett Davis. "When we believe, we do well. When we don't, we lose points. We have the physical components. We have to find a way to put ourselves in a good space mentally, physically and spiritually."
Faith Tarver led the attack with 13 kills, with
Ruby Duncan following with 11. Both Duncan and
Timberlie Miller, two of the best servers in the nation, added five aces each in the match. Miller, the reigning NAIA Setter of the Week, had 28 assists and Sierra Miller had a team-high 25 digs.
The Master's will now travel to Rocklin, Calif. where they will face the Jessup Warriors on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
