Caden Deck and
Tyrik Trotman scored three goals each as The Master's men's soccer team opened GSAC play with a dominating 8-1 win over Life Pacific Thursday at Reese Field.
It is the first time either player has scored a hat trick for the Mustangs. In addition to the goals, both picked up an assist as well.
Prince Chingancheke and
Giorgio Martino scored the other goals for TMU. The warriors David Marin scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute.
"We've been working hard on making good quality chances and finishing, which means goals. So obviously we did that," said TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard. "It was nice in conference to be able to play everybody."
The Mustangs (5-2-2, 1-0 GSAC) took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and added two more goals in the first 3:38 of the second half. And while Coach Rickard was pleased to be up 5-0 before Life Pacific scored on the penalty kick, he pointed to the first goal of the game scored by Deck that truly got his team going.
"I was super happy with that first goal because we were on them pretty good and we had some good chances," Rickard said. "We had a cross between left back (
Matt Picht) and right back (
Caden Deck) resulting in a header goal. It rewarded us for the first 13 minutes of close chances."
TMU had 21 shots (13 on goal) compared to the Warriors' seven (three on goal). All three of Trotman's shots found the net, with Deck scoring on three of his four shots.
It was the largest margin of victory for The Master's since a 7-0 win over San Diego Christian College back on Oct. 24, 2018. The Mustangs have now scored 25 goals this season, compared to 27 for the entire season last year. And the team still has six more games to play.
The Master's will get a week off before hosting the Jessup Warriors next Thursday at 4 p.m.
