Box Score Snapping a four-match losing streak, The Master's women's volleyball team picked up their first conference win by defeating the Arizona Christian Firestorm 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 Saturday in Glendale, Ariz.
The Lady Mustangs (10-7, 1-3 GSAC) had a 42-30 advantage in kills, hit .256, out-blocked the Firestorm 11-3, and continued the hot serving with six more aces.
"Very thankful our team bounced back today," said Head Coach Annett Davis. "Our energy and attitudes were in line with a team who wanted to honor the Lord (and also win)."
In the first set, TMU led from the first serve to the final point. In the second set, ACU was able to grab a one-point lead three times, but after the score was tied 15-15, TMU put it in gear to close out the set on a 10-4 run to take a 2-0 lead in sets.
The third set started tight, but after the score was tied 4-4, The Master's went on a 10-3 run to open up a 14-7 lead. The Firestorm could never recover.
Both
Ruby Duncan and
Faith Tarver led the team with 10 kills each, with Tarver adding two aces and a block.
Timberlie Miller had 36 assists,
Sierra Hale a match-high 16 digs, and
Cora Machado led the team with six blocks.
"We had a very disciplined blocking today all around, especially from our middles," Davis said. "And
Cora Machado played well all around as an offensive and defensive threat."
The Master's will be back home in The MacArthur Center Tuesday for a non-conference match against Westcliff at 6 p.m.
