Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dave Caldwell, Sports Information Director

Lady Mustangs suffer first loss of the season

The Master's women's soccer team took on a very fast and physical Cal State San Marcos team, coming up short 2-0 Thursday in San Marcos, Calif.

The Cougars scored a goal in each half, both off of corner kicks, which is a very important distinction for first-year TMU Head Coach Esteban Chavez.

"San Marcos has athletes at every position that are fast, strong and very physical," Chavez said. "The first 12 minutes we were very shaky. But after that we managed their athleticism very well and we were successful against them They did not beat us during the run of play, and that was key."

The lady Mustangs had four shots during the entire match, but none were on goal. The Cougars had 12 shots, seven on goal, including the two scored off corners.

TMU Goalkeeper Autumn Jensen finished with five saves, with Alexandria Dunn, Jordyn Bingaman, Cynthia Ramos and Kylie Ibach each getting a shot off.

"As athletic and as fast as they were, our girls really showed we can compete at that level," Chavez said. "We are improving on our style of play, and we are doing it against teams that are putting a tremendous amount of pressure on us. And that for me is huge."

The Master's will get most of the weekend off as they are next scheduled to play at home on Monday against the University of Antelope Valley. Kickoff for that match is at 11 a.m. on Reese Field.
