Kaleb Lowery has been named to the NAIA First Team All-American squad, becoming just the fourth player in The Master's program history to earn the honor.
Lowery, who was named the GSAC Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season, joins Mike Penberthy, Joey Penberthy and
Lawrence Russell on the list of the 12 best basketball players in the NAIA this year.
"Achieving First Team All-American status as a sophomore is a remarkable achievement," said TMU Head Coach Kelvin Starr. "The exciting thing for The Master's University is that Kaleb has two more years. I am proud of Kaleb and how he represents The Master's basketball and The Master himself."
Lowery averaged 15.3 points per game and grabbed 9.6 rebounds a game. He scored a career-high 31 points in a road game against Westmont on Jan. 28, and tallied 12 double-doubles in 27 games. He scored in double figures in all but three of those games.
He also had 24 blocks on the season, but none were better than in the final game of the season when, with less than five seconds to play, he swatted away what would have been the game-tying layup against the Jessup Warriors. That block preserved the win and gave the Mustangs an automatic bye to the semi-finals of the GSACÂ Tournament.
"I'm grateful," Lowery said. "I've been working my whole life on the game of basketball, working every day of my life with my dad, Coach Starr, different coaches... I'm thankful for this team. I wouldn't be in this position without my teammates pushing me hard every day in practice. I'm really grateful for being a part of that (team), but it's only the beginning."
