Five different Lady Mustangs scored in double figures as The Master's women's basketball team defeated the San Diego Christian Hawks 83-66 Saturday night in The MacArthur Center.
With just four games remaining and the conference tournament looming, the win moves TMU into a tie for fifth place with Jessup. Only the top six teams will advance to post-season play.
Statistically, the Lady Mustangs (15-7, 8-6 GSAC) shot 34-of-71 (48%)Â from the field, including 9-of-19 (47%) from behind the 3-point line. TMU also out-rebounded the Hawks 50-26 to control the boards.
But statistics don't always tell the whole story.
"A bit of a rough showing from us today," said Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "We shot the ball great from three and met our rebounding margin goal. But we got spread out defensively and didn't have the on-ball discipline we're looking for at this point in the season."
The Master's had a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter, extending it to 53-26 at the half. But SDCCÂ never stopped playing, out-scoring TMU 40-30 in the second half.
"We let them have way too much in the second half," Zamroz said.
Both
Marin Lenz and
Ella Brubaker had 15 points to lead The Master's, followed by Belle Hernandez with 13, and 10 each for
Lexi Hernandez and
Kelly Lotz, which tied her career high.
Madeline Cooke pulled down 11 rebounds, the fifth game this year she had double-digit boards.
Three of the final four games of the season will be in The MacArthur Center, with the Lady Mustangs next hosting Life Pacific on Thursday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
