It was a tough ask.
Needing to beat the No. 11 team in the country, a team with only one loss all season, in order to get to the GSAC championship match.
The Master's women's volleyball team battled, but in the end the Vanguard Lions proved to be the better team, giving TMU a three-set 15-25, 20-25, 23-25 loss Friday night in San Dimas, Calif.
"Tough match. Vanguard played very well today," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "We are proud of our girls. In my book, we honored the Lord with our attitudes and effort. And that's a victory."
The only advantage the Lady Mustangs got was in blocks with an 8-6 difference. But the Lions had more kills (40-33), a better hitting percentage (.221 vs. .177) and more aces (11-1).
Ruby Duncan had a team-high nine kills, followed by seven each from
Faith Tarver and
Breanna Brooks.
Duncan also had the lone ace in the match for TMU, which means she is now the single-season record holder with 67 service aces.
Timberlie Miller finishes with 66.
Both
McKenna Brady and
Cora Machado had five blocks apiece.
The match Friday was also the last for four of the five graduating seniors --Â
Breanna Brooks,
Cora Machado,
Brooke Scott and
Faith Tarver.
Madeline Cooke is in Idaho playing basketball for TMU.
An emotional night to be sure.
