The Master's men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2023-24 season by defeating Our Lady of the Lake University (TX) 96-77 Friday in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Caden Starr scored a career-high 32 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds to get his first double-double of the season. He also hit a career-high seven threes in the game.
Ty Harper also collected a career-high 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and led the Mustangs with four assists.
"I'm happy for the boys getting their first win tonight," said Head Coach Kelvin Starr. "We shot the ball well tonight. Ty and Caden were great tonight and (Jordan) Caruso was a madman on the boards."
The Mustangs (1-1) scored 52 first half points, hitting 10 threes in the opening 20 minutes, to go into the locker room leading by 15. For the game TMU shot better than 45% from the field and finished with 14 threes.
TMU also pulled down 32 rebounds in that first half, 16 off the offensive glass. Caruso had 14 of those rebounds, nine of which were offensive. He also scored 10 points for his first double-double.
"We were really unselfish as a team," Starr said. "But we still have a ton to work on."
The Master's will get their next four games at home in The MacArthur Center, starting this Wednesday when they host the Antelope Valley Pioneers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
