In an intense battle between two of the top teams in the GSAC, The Master's men's soccer team defeated the Jessup Warriors 1-0 Thursday on Reese Field in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Matt Picht stole a pass near midfield. Two passes later,
Caden Zierenberg passed the ball ahead to Trotman in front of the goal who one-touched it into the net for what would prove to be the game-winner.
"All these GSAC games are going to be intense," said TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard. "Getting the finish was really important, but I'm disappointed we didn't take our chances to separate from them. We had some golden opportunities to start to separate, especially in the first half. And when you don't, you're vulnerable."
Â
The Mustangs (6-2-2, 2-0 GSAC) out-shot the Warriors (7-4-2, 2-1 GSAC) 15-7 in the match. A second goal by the Mustangs late in the second half was wiped away after TMU was called for offside.
Â
Prince Chingancheke took four shots, with Trotman adding three and two each for
David Cloar,
Theo Kudlo,
Giorgio Martino and
Alexis Garcia.
Â
Kian Bensend collected two saves and recorded his fourth shutout of the season. He now has 13 clean sheets in his career, moving him to sixth all-time.
"I'm really happy to get a shutout," Rickard said. "Our foundational goal was to work as a team to get a shutout. It's a team thing. Team's that go far in the playoffs get shutouts."

The Master's will be back on Reese Field Saturday when they host the undefeated Menlo Oaks. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
