Faith Tarver had a season-high 19 kills and added five blocks as The Master's women's volleyball team defeated the OUAZ Spirit in four sets Saturday in The MacArthur Center.
Despite dropping the first set 22-25, the Lady Mustangs (15-10, 5-6 GSAC) came back strong to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 and get their third conference win in a row.
"Our idea was to come out crisp and compete well," said TMU Head Coach Annett Davis. "I don't think we did that the first set, obviously. But I think we turned it around and became more crisp with our touches, our passing was great today as they hit the spots we were asking them to hit, blocking... across the board our touches improved and I think they became more focussed and ready to fight. So I think that was the difference for us."
TMU hit just .051 in that first set, getting 10 kills but committing eight attack errors. In the second set, the Lady Mustangs hit .371Â with 13 kills against no errors, continuing that trend through the final two sets to finish with a .225 hitting percentage. OUAZ fell to .088 for the match.
The Master's was also able to out-block the Spirit 10-2 and continued to show they are one of the best serving teams in the country with an 11-4 advantage in aces.
"I think our serving was great today," Davis said. "It got (OUAZ) in a lot of trouble. If we can serve tough and hit our targets, it makes it tougher for (the opponent) to run their offense. So I don't think (OUAZ) was able to do everything they wanted to do, and that started with our serve."
Ruby Duncan finished with 11 kills and picked up four more aces to bring her season total to 58.
Timberlie Miller finished with 41 assists and also added a pair of aces to bring her season-record total up to 60.
Sierra Hale had a career-high 29 digs to anchor the back row.
The Master's will be off for a week before they travel to Fullerton, Calif. next Saturday to take on Hope International in their final road game of the regular season. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
