Victor Ohia Obioha shattered his previous career-high scoring 24 points in The Master's 82-74 win over San Diego Christian Thursday night in El Cajon, Calif.
Â
The previous career-high for the 6-10 transfer from Pepperdine was 12 he scored against Menlo just last week.
Â
The senior is starting to find his stride.
"Victor was awesome tonight on both ends of the floor," said Head Coach Kelvin Starr. "We defended really well again tonight. We do need to score more efficiently and turn the ball over less (21 turnovers)."
Ohia Obioha shot 11-of-12 (92%) from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the 3-point line. He also notched his first career double-double, grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds against SDCC, and added two blocks and two steals.
Â
The Mustangs (12-5, 5-3) went on an 11-0 run early in the first half to grab a 21-8 lead. San Diego Christian clawed back to get to within six at the half, 30-24. But TMU opened up the second half on a 9-1 run in the first 2:04 to get back to a double-digit advantage.
Â
But the Hawks wouldn't roll over. They went on an 21-8 run late in the game to close the gap to four and force The Master's to call a timeout with 3:40 to play. That proved crucial as the Mustangs scored four points in the next 18 seconds to get the cushion back up to eight, hit their free throws down the stretch and collect the eight-point win.
"There was no quit in SDCC," Starr said. "They competed all night. Coz (Head Coach Dwayne Cosby) is doing an amazing job with that program."
Â
Jordan Caruso finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
Caden Starr had 14 points withÂ
Kaleb Lowery knocking down 11 and grabbing nine rebounds.
As a team, TMU shot 50% from the field while holding SDCC to 38%, and out-rebounded the Hawks 43-28.
Â
The Mustangs will be back home this Saturday as they face the Vanguard Lions in The MacArthur Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
