It was the classic cliché of, "The match was a lot closer than the score would indicate."
Â
The Master's women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by #2 University of Jamestown, but it was a battle. The Knights defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-17, 30-28, 25-23 at the Electric City Invitational in Great Falls, Mont.
Â
TMU (3-2) actually had more kills, assists and digs than Jamestown (7-1), but it was the efficiency of the #2 team in the country that proved to be the difference.
Â
"They were a highly skilled, very athletic team," said Head Coach
Annett Davis. "It's just for us the key is consistency. We let off the gas when we should have been pressing forward."
Â
As a team the Knights hit .164 compared to the Lady Mustangs .064. Jamestown was also able to serve eight aces in the three sets compared to TMU's four. Yet, there were some chances, such as when The Master's was able to have two large leads in the second set, only to see the Knights storm back to take the 30-28 thriller. Then in the third, TMU led 21-17, but again faced another storm to lose that third and final set.
Â
"I'm very proud of the way the girls played," Davis added. "They showed some grit."
Â
Ruby Duncan and
Faith Tarver each led TMU with nine kills, with Jessi Swenning and
Emily Clark adding 3 blocks each. The setting duo of
Natalie Collins and
Timberlie Miller dished 19 and 12 assists respectively.
