The Master's men's soccer team had their opportunities and put on pressure when it needed to, but at the end of 90 minutes they had to settle for a 1-1 tie with the University of Antelope Valley Saturday in Lancaster, Calif.
Â
The Mustangs (0-1-1) outshot the Pioneers 15-10, plus they were able to push the tempo as TMU had six corner kicks compared to UAV's three.
Â
"We were moving the ball well and we had some good chances," Head Coach
Jim Rickard said. "The more we can create opportunities the more we can score."
Â
The Pioneers scored first in the 10
th minute as Xavi Grainger was able to send a pass over the top that Josue Celio was able to trap and fire into the back of the net. But it wasn't until the 80
th minute before the Mustangs were able to tie it.
Â
In one of the five corner kicks TMU had in the second half,
Prince Chingancheke was fouled in the box. That led to a penalty kick by
Aidan Rohde who was able to make good for the tie.
Â
"Prince made all that happen," Rickard said. "He is so dangerous in the box and his quickness and movements brought on the foul. And I was happy with Aidan's kick. We need 100 percent of those, so that was big."
Â
The non-conference road schedule continues on Tuesday when the Mustangs travel to Merced to take on the Bobcats of UC Merced. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
Â
"We are getting the right kind of experience for our young players," Rickard said. "Once we get more guys healthy, I will have more options."
