TMU Baseball picked up three non-conference wins against Bethesda University over the weekend, with the fourth game set to be completed on April 13 when the two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader.
Â
The Mustangs swept Friday's two games by scores of 11-1 and 6-4, before taking Saturday's game one 9-2. Master's trailed 11-12 in the bottom of the seventh inning of the fourth and final game of the series before play was suspended.
Â
In Friday's first game, TMU scored in each of the first five innings, as starting pitcher
Zachary Filos (seven innings pitched, one run, four strikeouts) received more than enough run support in the win.
Evan Banks homered twice, including a grand slam in bottom of the eighth, in route to a seven-RBI performance.
Â
The Mustangs then trailed 2-0 in the second game going into the bottom of the third, before six runs in the next three innings proved to be enough to complete the doubleheader sweep. Banks and
Nolan Inouye hit RBI-singles, while
Austin Young and
Miles Henderson had RBI-extra base hits.
Â
Banks continued his dominant series with an RBI-double to open the scoring in the bottom of the first of Saturday's first game. Banks' RBI-single in the bottom of the third capped a two-run inning, before Master's scored three runs in each of the sixth and eighth innings.
Â
Young's RBI-double and Banks' two-RBI double highlighted the Mustangs' offensive output the rest of the way. Banks (3-for-5, two doubles, four RBIs) and
Corny Miller (3-for-4) each recorded three hits in the game, as both had multiple hits in each of the first three games of the series.
Â
Zachary Jimenez earned the win, pitching seven innings of two-run ball, while giving up only two hits and striking out four.
Â
The Mustangs return to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday for a four-game series against William Jessup University. Doubleheaders both days are set to begin at 11 a.m.
