TMU Men's Basketball had its Senior Night spoiled on Saturday night, however, the Mustang seniors were afforded one more game inside The MacArthur Center on Tuesday night against Westcliff University.
Master's took full advantage of that opportunity.
Senior
Gavin DeJong posted a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, leading all players in both categories, as TMU defeated Westcliff by a final margin of 79-69.
"It was a solid team win," Master's Head Coach
Kelvin Starr said. "
Gavin DeJong was awesome again tonight."
In the first half, the Mustangs developed a lead as big as 17, only for a 14-0 Warrior run to cut TMU's advantage down to three.
"We still need to avoid the stretches in games where we don't score," Starr said.
Then a DeJong layup and two
Jordan Starr free throws with under a minute remaining the first half put Master's ahead by seven at the break.
The Mustangs quickly restored their double-digit lead early in the second half after
Ryan Beddeo's steal led to a fastbreak layup.
Davian Brown's 3-pointer nine minutes into the second period then gave TMU its largest lead of the game, 65-43.
From then on, Master's managed its lead before winning by 10 to improve to 18-9 overall on the season.
Kaleb Lowery (19 points, five rebounds) joined DeJong in double figures, while
Jordan Starr (five assists, five rebounds) nearly did as well with his nine points.
The Mustangs conclude their regular season in northern California later this week, when they take on fourth-ranked William Jessup University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Rocklin before playing against Menlo in Atherton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
