Lady Mustangs Win in Final Seconds

Life Pacific led The Master's University 65-64 with 12.6 seconds to play.

That's when Belle Hernandez took the inbounds pass, drove to the basket and made the shot to give the Lady Mustangs a 66-65 win over the Warriors in San Dimas Thursday.

It was the Phoenix The Master's (8-1, 3-1) needed to lift themselves out of a poor shooting night against LPU.

"We're trying to find our way right now," said Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "Things aren't clicking like we'd like, but it's still early. We made big plays in the last 60 seconds."

TMU shot just 28-of-72 (39%) from the floor, 7-of-33 (21%) from 3-point range, and 3-of-9 (33%) from the free throw line.

For the season, the No. 19-ranked team in the NAIA shoots over 47%, 27% and 65% respectively.

"I liked our fight despite things not going our way on either end," Zamroz said. " I have confidence in our team. At some point our threes will start to fall."

TMU out-rebounded the Warriors 47 to 36, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to a 21-4 difference in second-chance points. Lexi Hernandez pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds, 12 off the offensive boards, and added 17 points.

"Lexi was a monster on the glass and played clean up offensively," said Zamroz.

TMU will be back on the road Saturday traveling to Fullerton to take on Hope International. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
