Box Score Master's women's soccer got two goals from All-GSAC Forward
Hannah Burke, the second with just 7:23 to play, and a stunning goal from
Ellie Radmilovich, to lift the Lady Mustangs to a 3-2 win over Vanguard Saturday in Costa Mesa.
"What an awesome GSAC game," said Master's Head Coach
Curtis Lewis. "For the neutral fan it had everything. So grateful to these girls and for fighting so hard as a unit today. Vanguard is a quality team and Lauren (Mascaro) and Cameron (Riley) are excellent coaches who deserve a ton of accolades."
The game ebbed and flowed and was very even. Vanguard scored first in the 15th minute, but just 1:30 later Burke got her first goal with an assist from
Alexis Mendoza to tie it 1-1. Less than three minutes later Radmilovich fired a one-timer to the top shelf to give Master's the lead.
"
Ellie Radmilovich's goal was just stunning," Lewis said. "She was so vital for us today and the effort she put on the field today (was amazing). And Dozie just gave us her best performance in a TMU jersey and she worked tirelessly to win the midfield battles."
After a second Lions goal made the score 2-2 at the break, Vanguard came out putting more pressure on the Lady Mustangs. The Lions had nine shots in the second half compared to Master's four, but it was that one shot in the 83rd minute by Burke that made the difference.
"
Hannah Burke got her brace and fought through some injuries the first half and was rewarded handsomely with the game winner," Lewis said. "Coach Payton (Williams) and Coach Esteban (Chavez) were key to helping with formation changes and subbing patterns to shore things up when it looked like the game was getting away from us. What a great game to get three goals."
Master's will now play the No. 1 seed Westmont in the semi-finals in Santa Barbara on Thursday at 2 p.m. Westmont is the host site for both semi-final matches and the championship, which is scheduled for Nov. 12.
"Just to get another week together as a team is such a privilege," Lewis said. "This group of girls has been such a sweet group to coach. All glory to God and we thank Him for moving on to the semifinals."
