Women's Basketball Gets Second GSAC Win

Three players scored over 20 points each as The Master's women's basketball team beat the Arizona Christian Firestorm 90-73 Saturday afternoon at The MacArthur Center.

The Firestorm jumped out to a 31-21 lead at the end of the first quarter on 10-of-15 shooting. But that seemed to awaken the Lady Mustangss (5-0, 2-0 GSAC) as TMU out-scored ACU 29-10 in the second quarter to go to the locker room with a 50-41 lead.

"It took us awhile to get our motor started today," said The Master's Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "We came out flat and lackluster. We haven't been fully healthy for about two weeks now and it showed a little bit today. Once the second quarter started we looked more alert and ready to play."

The Master's maintained that nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter that jumped up to as much as 18 points in the final frame before settling with the 17-point win.

TMU shot 48% from the field, 26% from 3-point range but just 6-of-12 from the free throw line. ACU was held to 39% from the field.

Marin Lenz got her first double-double with a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Mustangs. Belle Hernandez also notched a career-high with 23 points and Ella Brubaker added 22, the fifth game of the season she scored over 20 points in a game.

"Marin had her best showing yet," Zamroz said of the sophomore from Abbotsford, British Columbia. "She hit some early three's that forced them out of their zone. She kept that scoring mentality into the second half and had some really nice finishes at the rim as well. As a transfer it's not easy to come in and command the team as a point guard has to do. With every week that passes it's becoming a more seamless transition."

One other highlight was the play of sophomore Jayla Julmist who pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds and added eight points to the score sheet.

"Jayla played big minutes as well," Zamroz said. "She's getting us so many more opportunities because of her work on the glass. She has been a rock for us down low so far this year. I think she's well on her way to being a double-double type player for us."

The Master's will go on the road Monday to Riverside to take on the La Sierra Eagles, a team they defeated on Nov. 3 97-76. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
