TMU Women's Volleyball geared up for the beginning of Golden State Athletic Conference play next week by sweeping their second-straight match inside The MacArthur Center, this time against Marymount California University (25-16, 25-19, 26-24).
Â
"We are very pleased with our team's performance," Master's Head Coach
Annett Davis said. "Winning two days in a row in three sets is not an easy feat. They had to stay focused and on task to make that happen. The girls are starting to show a greater state of consistency."
Â
In the first set, back-to-back kills from
Emilye Grace Williams gave the Mustangs a substantial 13-5 lead. The two teams essentially traded points the rest of the set, as TMU took an immediate 1-0 advantage with a nine-point margin of victory.
Â
A
Ruby Duncan kill and two service aces from
Karli Stults immediately sparked the Mustangs in the second set, with TMU taking a commanding 4-0 advantage. Master's did not lead by fewer than two points the rest of the set, sparked by a 7-0 run which included three kills from Williams and two from Duncan.
Â
The third set was easily the most competitive, as Marymount led for the first time in any set, by as many as two and as late as 12-11. The Mustangs soared back, with a 4-0 streak putting TMU ahead, 23-18. The Mariners saved three match points to make the score 24-24, but an
Emily Scott kill ensured that a fourth set would not be needed.
Â
Williams, Duncan and
Faith Tarver all led The Master's attack with 11 kills apiece, while Tarver also added seven digs.
Â
"Faith stepped up her performance and had an aggressive mentality that is contagious," Davis said. "Ruby ended up making some key kills for our team. She is a multiple-position threat for us."
Â
Stults led the team with her two service aces and eight digs.
Natalie Collins recorded 32 assists at the setter position to lead all players.

Master's begins GSAC play on Friday at Vanguard before returning home to take on Hope International the next day.
