Despite an improved second half display, TMU Men's Soccer was unable to overcome a conceded goal in each half, as Master's fell to Southern Oregon at home on Saturday, 2-0.
Â
"The first half was a struggle to adjust to their speed and quickness, but in the second half we did some promising things and managed more shots," Master's Head Coach
Jim Rickard said.
Â
The visiting Raiders broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, as SOU limited TMU to just a single shot in the opening 45 minutes.
Â
After the break, the Mustangs were able to establish more possession in the Raiders' half of the field.
Corny Miller forced two saves out of the Southern Oregon goalkeeper, while
Jobany Estrada Mata provided a spark in the midfield.
Â
But that didn't stop the Raiders from adding to their lead 10 minutes into the second half from a header off a corner kick.
Â
Master's nearly cut Southern Oregon's lead in half when
Kellen Dresdow's delivery on a set piece found Estrada Mata at the far post, with his volley missing narrowly wide.
Â
Aidan Rohde's left-footed strike was then saved by a fully-stretched Raider goalkeeper, as it just wasn't meant to be for the Mustangs on the day.
Â
"We have to continue to play simple soccer to create quality scoring opportunities throughout the game," Rickard said. "We are improving every day and should see that pay off soon."
