TMU Baseball honored 16 seniors on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Bethesda University on Senior Day.
Â
The Mustangs won the first game 10-6 before holding the Flames scoreless in the second game, winning 8-0 for their third shutout of the season.
Â
Master's scored six runs in the first three innings of the first game, including two in the first and three in the third.
Â
TMU scored on a double-play groundout in the first before a
Will Batz RBI-single scored the Mustangs' second run of the inning.
Nick Tuttle, who went 4-for-5 in the first game, knocked in the lone run that Master's scored in the second inning with a triple.
Miles Henderson's two-RBI single and
Jeremiah Farris' RBI-double then extended TMU's lead to six after three.
Â
However, Bethesda fought back with six unanswered runs to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning. That tie did not last long, however, as
Joe Terlizzi restored the Mustangs' advantage with an RBI-single in the bottom half of the inning.
Â
Master's added three runs in the eighth on run-scoring singles from
Ryan Bricker and
Roy Verdejo.
Â
Kameron Quitno started on the mound for the Mustangs, pitching four shutout innings and striking out three batters.
Alec Akins came on in relief to earn the save with two scoreless innings of his own to go along with two strikeouts.
Â
TMU continued its late-inning momentum from the first game by scoring five runs in the first inning of the second game and eight total runs across the first three innings.
Â
Tuttle recorded his second RBI-triple of the day to get Master's on the board, before he advanced an additional 90 feet on a wild pitch to score the Mustangs' second run.
Roy Verdejo then scored on a wild pitch, with TMU adding an additional two runs on a Terlizzi base hit.
Â
A
Brock Bell double and
Byron Smith single knocked in both runs for Master's in the second inning. Bricker, who went 3-for-3 in the second game, then plated the Mustangs' eighth and final run of the game in the third inning.
Â
The pitching quartet of Akins (two innings),
Nelson Schutte (three innings),
Cade Walker (one inning) and
Cameron Jones (one inning) combined for the two-hit shutout, striking out a total of eight batters.
Â
Master's (27-16 overall) returns to Golden State Athletic Conference play next weekend to take on Arizona Christian inside Lou Herwaldt Stadium in the Mustangs' final series of the regular season.
