Kyndel Borman scored two first-half goals from long range to lead TMU Women's Soccer to a 2-0 shutout victory over Arizona Christian University on Thursday morning in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Â
"I'm proud of Kyndel to come off the bench and put two goals away in the first half," Master's head coach
Curtis Lewis said. "She was very dangerous all day."
Â
Borman's two first-half goals came just four minutes apart, with the first one coming in the 31st minute. Cutting inside from the left flank, Borman unleashed a shot from outside the 18-yard box that dipped underneath the crossbar to put the Mustangs ahead. She then doubled TMU's lead soon thereafter with her long-ranged free kick in the 35th minute.
Â
Thursday marked the second time this season Borman has scored multiple goals in a game and the seventh time she has done so in her Mustang career. Borman leads Master's with seven goals on the season, four more than her next-closest teammate,
Elizabeth Radmilovich.
Â
TMU had a couple other quality chances to ice the game in the first half, but the Mustangs settled for a two-goal halftime lead.
Â
"We finally looked dangerous again and could have put at least two more goals away with some composure in front of the net," Lewis said.
Â
Despite not being able to add to its lead the rest of the game, Lewis was pleased by what he saw from his team, particularly defensively to keep a shutout for the first time in eight games.
Â
"The back line did a good job of limiting ACU's opportunities," Lewis said. "We worked through some organizational issues and I thought we were much more connected from back to front."
Â
Emy Ramirez earned her first collegiate shutout in goal, recording three saves. For the game, Master's outshot Arizona Christian 14-9, including 6-3 in shots on goal.
Â
"I'm proud of the girls for playing on a short turnaround against a fresh team and for managing the game well," Lewis said. "Josh Macharia is doing a great job at ACU and is building well."
Â
Thursday's match marks the end of GSAC play for the Mustangs, who will be credited with a forfeit victory over Life Pacific in a game that was originally scheduled for this coming Tuesday. With that forfeit win, TMU finishes the regular season with a 7-5-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in the GSAC.
Â
"Overall I'm excited about the direction we are going in and the year that we have had," Lewis said.
Â
Master's is scheduled to host NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific University in a scrimmage on Wednesday at noon, which will serve as TMU's Senior Day.
