The Master's University men's basketball team trailed San Diego Christian College by nine just a few minutes into the second half, but a 27-2 run over the next five-plus minutes sparked the Mustangs to a 73-51 victory over the Hawks on Saturday night inside The MacArthur Center.
Kaleb Lowery led all players with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.
Caden Starr finished an assist shy of a triple-double, recording 15 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.
Gavin DeJong added 14 points and five rebounds, while
Davian Brown pitched in 11 points and five assists.
The first half was low-scoring, with San Diego Christian taking a 28-26 lead into the break. In the second half, the Mustangs nearly doubled their first-half output by scoring 47 points after halftime, while simultaneously holding the Hawks to just 23.
After making only one 3-pointer in the opening 20 minutes, TMU shot six-for-12 from behind the arc in the second half, while increasing its overall shooting percentage by 15%.
For the game, Master's outscored San Diego Christian in the paint, 44-22, while outrebounding the Hawks, 59-34. The Mustangs also held a 14-4 advantage in fast-break points.
With the win, TMU improves to 21-5 on the season.
