Borman's brace leads TMU Women's Soccer to victory in GSAC opener

Two second-half goals from Kyndel Borman proved to be the difference as The Master's University women's soccer team defeated William Jessup University, 3-1, on Thursday morning on Reese Field in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for both squads.

"Kyndel is a game changer," Master's head coach Curtis Lewis said of the junior forward. "Just about 30 minutes on the field today and two goals scored."

After a slow start to the game for the Mustangs, TMU got on the board first in the 29th minute when Elizabeth Radmilovich scored her fourth goal of the season. Jordyn Bingaman's shot from the top of the box ricocheted off the crossbar, only for Radmilovich to settle and calmly finish to the far post.

Lewis credited Kayla Monick for turning around his team's fortunes in the first half.

"We brought on Kayla Monick and she helped change the game by simply being aggressive and driving at their low block," Lewis said.

The Mustangs' 1-0 halftime lead did not hold up for long, though, as the Warriors equalized in the 54th minute after a TMU clearance deflected off a William Jessup (1-4, 0-1 GSAC) player and into the net.

However, Borman restored TMU's lead just a minute later when she dribbled past the Warrior defense and beat the opposing goalkeeper at the near post. Borman added to her tally five minutes after that, scoring her third goal of the campaign, after Radmilovich played her through on goal from the midfield line.

"The second half was much better in our possession and willingness to drive forward and create chances," Lewis said. "Our wingbacks were much more dangerous and Jordyn (Bingaman) and Brandi Meyer really got things into high gear which was cool to see."

Emy Ramirez recorded four saves to improve to 2-0 in goal for the Mustangs, who are now 4-2-1 (1-0 GSAC) on the season.

"Overall a win and putting three goals away is a great success," Lewis said. "It's all about getting points now that GSAC has begun."

Master's, which played in its first game on Reese Field since Nov. 9, 2019, is now on a three-game winning streak and will hit the road once again for matches with Arizona Christian University (1-5, 0-1 GSAC) and Ottawa University Arizona (2-0-1, 1-0 GSAC) on March 3 and 4.

"Next week will be a big challenge with back-to-back road games," Lewis said.
